Julie Mix McPeak, Tennessee’s insurance commissioner since 2011, will leave her post next month to pursue opportunities in the private sector, according to the state Department of Commerce and Insurance. McPeak was first appointed commissioner in 2011. She is the immediate past president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). She was most recently reappointed to her state position in December.

“Tennessee is a special place, and it has been a distinct privilege and honor to have served the Volunteer State,” McPeak said. “It’s been an amazing journey. At the end of the day, I’m enormously proud of our accomplishments on behalf of Tennesseans.”

Gov. Bill Lee has named Deputy Commissioner Carter Lawrence as interim commissioner until a permanent commissioner is selected.
