Support for Windows 7 to End

On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will discontinue support for the most popular version of its operating system, Windows 7. After that date, technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product.

Microsoft says that while you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware.

Microsoft is recommending you upgrade to Windows 10, and adds that “the best way to experience Windows 10 is on a new PC. While it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device, it is not recommended.”

It should be noted that Microsoft is making available, to business users only—for a considerable cost—continued support on Microsoft 7 through 2023, but the cost will double every year. And this will not be offered to home users or small businesses. Read more here and here.
