U.S. House to Vote On ‘Cadillac Tax’ Repeal, a PIA Priority
A major legislative priority of PIA, repeal of the “Cadillac Tax”—the 40 percent excise tax on so-called “overly generous” employer-sponsored health plans—will be voted on in the U.S. House on July 17. A spokesman for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) confirmed that H.R. 746, sponsored by Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT), will be considered under a suspension of the rules, allowing it to advance without offsetting revenue.
PIA National has long sought to prevent this tax from ever being implemented, successfully advocating to delay its implementation twice. Even though the tax will not take effect until 2022, its very existence creates instability in the health insurance market while putting consumers’ health care at risk.
PIA National urges the House to pass this legislation on Wednesday. PIA members from around the country can take action before the vote by sending a grassroots action message that can be found here.
