Hurricane Dorian has reminded homeowners and renters everywhere to review their insurance coverage. The Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) issued a consumer advisory that answers such questions as what damage does insurance cover; what damage is not covered; and discusses other coverages. Loretta Worters, a vice president at the I.I.I. tells USA Today that in addition to paying to repair the structure of the property up to the insured amount and other detached structures such as a garage or garden shed, homeowners policies also cover possessions inside the home, generally up to 50 percent or 70 percent of the home’s insured amount. The article also provides tips about obtaining adequate insurance for both homes and autos.
