PIA Members Participate in the 2018 PIA Federal Legislative Summit
Members of PIA from around the country came to Washington, D.C., on April 24 -25 to participate in the 2018 PIA Federal Legislative Summit (FLS). PIA members advocated for members of Congress and their staffs to defend state regulation of insurance; abolish, or scale back, the Federal Insurance Office (FIO); provide a long-term reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program; protect a strong and stable crop insurance program as part of the 2018 Farm Bill; and reinstate fair and just compensation in healthcare. The FLS was capped off with a Congressional reception on Capitol Hill with several U.S. Representatives in attendance.
PIA Holds Two Sessions on Flood Insurance
In conjunction with the FLS, PIA held several adjacent meetings and events, including two events at which FEMA leaders were featured guests. On April 24, PIA held a plenary session that included a presentation by the Federal Insurance Mitigation Administration’s (FIMA) Deputy Assistant Administrator for Federal Insurance Paul Huang. On April 26, PIA was fortunate to host a discussion during the Flood Insurance Advisory Board meeting with Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Insurance and Mitigation (Acting) David Maurstad.
In both meetings, PIA members expressed their concerns about cuts to the Write-Your-Own (WYO) expense reimbursement rate and explained how those cuts would likely be passed on to them.
